Releases from Justice Intake & Assessment Annex

JIAA began operating on December 17, 2018 at the county detention complex. Law-enforcement agencies bring arrestees into centralized identification, booking, charge acceptance, magistration, and bond processing. District Clerk staff process paperwork. An approved bond can lead to release from intake, while a person who remains detained moves into the Adult Detention Center.

The distinction matters. JIAA is a front-end processing stage. The Central Magistrate public search describes arrests processed during the preceding 24 hours. Aging out of that window proves only that the arrest is no longer in the short display. It does not prove bond, discharge, transfer, or community release.

How to Confirm a Release from Justice Intake & Assessment Annex

The controlling public release trail is the BCSO daily report, not a separate JIAA release roster. The official Jail Activity Reports page links dated Releases CSV files for no more than seven report days. Processing can lag, so date and time searches should allow for the next file.

1. Use the Central Magistrate result to identify the arrest and case, if it remains within the 24-hour window.
2. Open the likely BCSO Releases file and search the name or SO number.
3. Group all rows for the person because each charge or case can occupy a separate row.
4. Read release date, time, type, court, and bond fields together.
5. Confirm the prosecution in the Justice Information Portal or through the correct clerk.

The Bexar County released inmate search supplies the wider fallback chain when another agency may have taken custody.

Justice Intake & Assessment Annex Records and Contact

JIAA is at 200 North Comal Street, San Antonio, Texas 78207 and operates around the clock. Use 210-335-6201 for inmate and bond information. Have the full name and date of birth ready. A 24/7 intake operation does not mean a records counter is available at every hour.

When the online report has expired or does not explain the destination, submit a request through the Bexar records portal. Supply the name, birth date or SID/SO number, and approximate intake and release dates. Ask for the booking sheet, book-in/book-out chronology, release time and type, hold or destination entries, and court release order. Electronic copies and an itemized cost estimate keep the request precise.

JIAA Intake Versus Release

JIAA consolidates tasks that once caused confusion across city and county systems. Historical references to the Frank D. Wing Municipal Courts Building describe the older City/County arrangement and should not replace the current North Comal location. Current facts come from the county's JIAA page.

One source rarely answers the whole question. Match identity carefully, then date each fact.

JIAA Bond Processing

A person may leave intake on an approved bond without spending a conventional night in the Adult Detention Center. That does not mean the criminal case ended. Bond is a release mechanism while a case proceeds, and any terms should be checked in the docket and with the responsible pretrial office.

Bexar also operates a distinct Booking and Release Satellite Office for eligible defendants with certain active county warrants. That courthouse process excludes specified violent, sexual, child-related, and outside-jurisdiction warrants. It shows why a Bexar booking/release record can reflect processing without a normal jail stay. Do not assume every short custody episode occurred in a housing unit.

JIAA Detainers and Transfers

An ICE detainer or U.S. Marshals transfer can make a Bexar release the start of federal custody. ICE describes a detainer as a request for notice and up to 48 extra hours so DHS can assume custody. A county release row therefore needs a destination check when a hold is documented.

Use the ICE detainee locator for current immigration custody and, according to ICE, releases within about 60 days. The BOP locator applies to federal prison records, but a pretrial person held for USMS may not appear before designation. Historical use of Central Texas Detention Facility does not prove a current ICE contract.

JIAA Release Record Fields

The daily CSV includes SO number, name, address, case number, court, attorney, release date and time, release type, offense data, bond type and amount, and bondsman. It does not contain a booking photo, date of birth, or explicit destination field. Residential addresses should not be republished wholesale.

“All Charges Released” establishes that the listed Bexar booking charges were released at that time. It is not an acquittal. Check the clerk's case record for dismissal, plea, judgment, or other disposition. The County Clerk maintains misdemeanor records, while the District Clerk maintains felony criminal records.

Older JIAA Processing Records

After the daily file expires, the underlying record may remain. Texas retention rules make the jail register permanent and generally preserve booking, release, transfer, transport, and court-release material for release or transfer plus two years. An expunction order can override ordinary retention.

Public-information law does not make every intake detail open. Juvenile, sealed, medical, victim, and active investigative material may be withheld or redacted. Ask for the exact custody episode. Route misdemeanor outcomes to the County Clerk and felony outcomes to the District Clerk.

From JIAA to Court Records

Intake, release, and prosecution are separate events. JIAA establishes identity, accepts charges, supports magistration, and routes a person toward bond processing or continued jail custody. A BCSO row can later establish when the listed county booking ended. Neither source establishes guilt. The court record supplies a plea, dismissal, judgment, sentence, or other public disposition.

Bexar splits that court trail by offense level. The County Clerk keeps misdemeanor criminal records, and the District Clerk is the felony custodian. Odyssey can search parties, cases, judgments, and warrants. Use the court and case number from the release file to narrow results. Similar names are common, and the daily CSV has no birth-date field.

The Central Magistrate result serves another purpose. Its short window can show that an arrest reached initial processing, but it ages out after 24 hours. That is not a release event. The person might have bonded out, moved into ADC housing, remained subject to another case, or transferred to another authority. Check the dated release report and every matching charge row.

If online sources conflict, call the inmate and bond line with the full name and date of birth, then request the book-in/book-out chronology. Ask for recorded hold and destination entries instead of asking staff to infer where the person went. Existing records document the custody sequence more reliably than a conclusion drawn from a missing search result.

JIAA Release Status Boundaries

A bond approval and physical release are different facts. District Clerk personnel process paperwork at JIAA, and an arrestee may process out on bond or move into the main jail. An order or posted bond can begin release processing, but the BCSO timestamp is stronger evidence of when the listed booking ended. No official estimate applies to every bond, hold, holiday, or release mechanism.

Pretrial release is not parole. Bexar Pretrial Services handles eligible people on personal recognizance or conditional surety while a case is pending. Probation, formally community supervision, follows a court order and belongs to Bexar CSCD. Parole and mandatory supervision concern release from TDCJ state-prison custody. A move from JIAA into ADC housing is continued county confinement.

Another agency's hold can change the destination. A Bexar booking may close while state, federal, immigration, or another county's custody begins. When a transfer is recorded, check the receiving system rather than calling it a community release. TDCJ covers state prison. BOP covers federal prison records, while USMS pretrial custody may require the federal docket or facility confirmation. ICE uses its own detainee locator.

A later warrant or arrest does not cancel the historical release. It creates a new dated status. Keep the original release date beside any later event so the custody sequence remains clear and verifiable. Compare the release report with the current docket and any fresh Central Magistrate result. This timeline prevents a short intake listing, an old release row, and a current legal status from being collapsed into one claim.
